6-7 Nov 2010 Rural Community Health Project at Kg Lumpagas , Persiangan

Kg Lumpagas is a remote village situated in the interior of Sabah. It is only accessible only by boat about 1 hour journey from Kg Salung. To get to Kg Salung, we need to drive 125km from Keningau, including 15 km of rough gravel road.

8 Lions Clubs from District 308-A2 (LC Tenom, Tenom Mandarin, Keningau, Keningau Mandarin, KK Downtown, Tawau Mandarin, Labuan Mandarin & Sibu Berjaya) once again joined hands to provide the much need services to the villagers in this remote village. The convoy of 7 vehicles with more than 20 members was led by DG Augustine Ngu and departed Keningau at 8 am on 6th Nov. We reached Kg Salung at 11 am and 11 Lions from Tawau Mandarin were already there awaiting for the boat to Kg Lampagas.

Talk on farming were given by the Agricultural Officers from Keningau and farming tools were given to the villagers.

Children were not forgotten as we organised colouring contest, games and quiz for them with lots of goodies and stationeries.

The Dental staff also conducted oral care education and dental kits were also given to the children.

In the evening, the villagers entertained us with their cultural dances and traditional music; and all of us had good dancing session with the children. Some took the opportunity to taste the local wine – TAPAI.

Overall, it is a very successful and meaningful service project, jointly orgainsed by the 8 Lions Clubs. We not only gave them the much needed medical-dental services and other essential items, we also brought them fun and happiness for the 2 days as can be seen in the photos. We show that there are people who show love and caring heart to them.

We took the opportunity to meet up with the Thalassemia children at the day care centre which building was built and funded by LC Tenom in 1996. We presented RM 300 to the Thalassemia Association Tenom and angpows of RM20 to every child. LC Tenom Mandarin also presented CNY gift set to the children. Our sincere thanks to Mrs Liew for her kind heart and strong support towards the needy children.

Initiated in 1991, the Murut Cultural Centre is finally up. It is located 10 km from Tenom Town, at Kampung Pulong. If you are travelling from Keningau, you cannot miss the centre as it is located just beside the road, to your left hand side.

The total area that is covered by the centre is 33 acres, next to the Pegalan River. The impressive buildings alone cover an area of 20 acres. The main building is now complete and it is open to the public. An interesting gallery displays many artefacts of the Murut people who inhabit the area.

The sight of the structure of the centre is impressive. The buildings are mainly constructed of local timber. Giant pillars feature elements of local Murut architecture. Wood carvings on the pillars and pannels inside the building give visitors a real feel of Murut traditions, which is enhanced in the museum gallery in the upper floor with its many artefacts, such as jars, gongs, traditional designs and general information on the Murut.

The Murut are the third largest indigenous group in Sabah, after the Kadazandusun and the Bajau. They are made up of a number of sub-groups called Baukan, Gana, Timugon, Tahol, Serundung, Selungai, Paluan, Okolod, Murut Beaufort and Keningau. Many of the Murut, especially those in the far interior, still live in their traditional longhouses, and practise swidden agriculture. Others have taken up skilled and remunerated work in town, but they are all exceptionable hosts, and Murut weddings are always a grand affair.

Joint Projects by 6 Lions Clubs: Keningau, Keningau Mandarin, KK Downtown, Tawau Mandarin, Tenom & Tenom Mandarin. Leos form SM Ken Hwa also assisted at this project.
Special thanks to Dental Department Hospital Keningau, led by DrJane and also Dr Loga for providing the much needed dental services to the villagers. Also thanks to Mr Bala & Mr Alban from Agriculture Department for the agricultural kits and farming guides.

Our Club was led by Acting President Benedict Lee with 5 other members: 2ndVDG Dr Tan, Secretary Michael, Syed Meera, Chinly, Chong Shiao Chiek; FOL Suk Xian and 3 assistants from TMC. Lion Syed Meera had a special task to cook curry for the dinner and roti canai+Boori for the children and villagers as breakfast.

Medical Services: Medical consultation and free treatment were provided by OC Dr Gan and 2nd VDG Dr Tan.
Majority of the adults suffered from chronic backache and bodyache with treatment made even more challenging as they also have gastric problems. The kids are having mostly cough and cold and skin problems. We noted that many kids have worm manifestation. One good thing observed is that Obesity and obesity associated illnesses like hypertension and diabetes is not common among the people here.

Expedition to Kg Labang Indonesia

We took time off to Kg Labang, which is the nearest Indonesian village , about 20 minutes boat ride from where we based our services at Kg Inakaak. We had a short discussion with the Ketua Kampung there who extended his invitation to us, the Lions to visit the village in the near future to provide medical and dental services and to enjoy their hospitality. We met the villagers and the children who were very friendly with us. On the way back, we stopped at Kg Bantul and visited the Church which was built by the Anglican Church.

After a long wait, finally the Lions Club of Sipitang has been formed and sponsored by LC KK Central. The Charter Night iwill be held on 14 Nov at 6.30pm at SFI Motel Sipitang. . Thanks to the hard work and strong commitment by President Janny and her hard working members of LC KK Central to assist in gathering a group of service oriented people in Sipitang to form this new club. Lions from Lawas led by President Simon Tay has also worked extraordinary hard to assist in the formation of this Club. Due to it’s geographical location, President Simon has been appointed as the guiding Lion.

About Sipitang

Sipitang is a town located in the Interior Division of Sabah. It is the closest town to the Sabah-Sarawak border, situated 44 kilometers south of Beaufort, 48 km from Lawas, 80km from Tenom and 144 kilometers south of Kota Kinabalu.

Sipitang is home of the Kedayan, Lundayeh, Brunei Malay and Murut indigenous people. Its mainly undisturbed surrounding offers one of Sabah’s most beautiful natural attractions—the Maga Waterfall of Long Pasia.

The convoy consisting of 13 vehicles arrived Tenom at 8.50 am for Convoy briefing by Tenom 4X4 members. Road safety campaign was jointly carried out with Tenom Police who turned up in big number to support our convoy. After Tenom coffee and light refreshment, the convoy was jointly flagged off by 2nd VDG Dr Tan, Assistant OCPD Tenom , ADO Primus and IPP Jamawi. Total of 16 vehicles consisting of about 50 Lions joined the convoy at this point.

We arrived at Lawas at noon and were given warm reception by the Lawas Lions and follow by lunch at 126 Restaurant, courtesy of LC of Lawas. Lions from KK, Labuan and Beaufort joined us in Lawas. The convoy departed for Limbang at 1 pm in 23 vehicles.

On the way, the convoy faced some problems. Some Lions from Tawau did not have the complete Immigration clearance at Merapok and have to turn back to Sarawak-Sabah border to have their Pastport stamp chopped, which took them another extra 90 minutes. Any vehicle was unable to start after stop over at the Trusan immigration check point.

Despite all these obstacles, all the Lions managed to make it to Limbang though some of them missed the Environmental Project at Taman Tasik, Bukit Mas Limbang.

每年全球各地超过43，000个狮子会很荣耀的赞助和举办在当地的国际狮子会和平海报比赛，给各学校参与，鼓励 11-13 岁的儿童以艺术的方法来表达他们对和平的看法。参赛者运用各种材料，透过想象力，来表达个年不同的比赛主题。今年的主题是 The Power of Peace 和平的力量

国际狮子会推广国际和平海报比赛的宗旨

4.1) 来协助社区青少年了解和平的重要

4.2) 提升青少年对艺术创作之造诣

4.3) 促进青少年健康的艺术文化运动

希望通过这项国际性的活动，能宣传世界和平及国际间的了解

每年度之比赛都有与和平有关主题。每年度由全球350,000多位儿童的作品选出24幅最佳作品。这些作品透过网际网络，媒体与全球分享以及在全球各地展览。

今年我们丹南两狮会把这和平概念和活动推展到年纪更小的一群，也是 1-3 年纪生（7-9 岁），让他们参与和平填色比赛。希望在他们更小的心灵中，已经接触到和平的概念。当他们到了11-12岁，就可以参加国际性的和平绘画比赛。希望到时他们有了更好的和平看法，能绘画出更好的海报作品！

我们很感谢各间学校的校长及老师们的大力支持和协助，使今天的国际狮子会和平海报及填色比赛能成功和更有意义的举行。

同时也呼吁和希望老师及家长们能多多参与我们狮子会的各项活动，为社会的需要尽点能力。也更希望老师家长们能考虑成为狮子会会员。我们不需要很富有参与狮子会，最重要是我们有一颗很关心及富有爱心的精神！

愛在丹南--慈大生志工服務守護鄉親健康

慈大學生在馬來西亞丹南進行國際志工服務，慈大醫學系主任許明木特地飛到亞庇，再自己一個人搭車來到丹南，參與孩子們的下鄉服務。了解當地連個眼科醫師也沒有，許明木同時也為當地民眾進行健康講座，他以老師與醫師的雙重身份，關懷著所有人的健康與成長。
入夜後的根地咬，突如其來下了一場雨，對當地人來說，下了雨的夜晚，通常是不出門的，但是知道有一位慈濟的眼科醫師特地從台灣來，要針對如何保護眼睛進行醫療講座，現場還是坐無虛席。
慈濟大學醫學系主任許明木：「你看看青光眼，裡面視神經，會變白凹下去。」
什麼症狀是老花眼，什麼症狀是白內障，眼睛怕光流淚，跟眼鏡配得好與壞，都是當地民眾相當關心的話題。
根地咬民眾江國勇：「講的很明瞭，我們都知道怎樣保護我們的眼睛。」
趣味的有獎徵答，送的是太陽眼鏡，拿到眼鏡的民眾樂得當場戴起來，拍照留念。
事實上，許明木來到沙巴，主要目的是來看看慈濟大學的學生在這裏進行國際志工服務的情形，但是當地醫療資源缺乏，丹南連個眼科專科醫生都沒有。
慈濟志工李麗花：「掛號費就是馬幣75塊，那看診下來一定是破一百，那這邊的人民收入才四、五百塊，如果你看個眼睛要一百塊，很多人就想說算了。」
因此許明木的到來，成了當地民眾相當重要的大事，紛紛趕來參與活動，看看是不是能有機會做視力篩檢。
每一次的服務，慈大的學生就是最好的助理，他們協助老師做基本的視力檢查，而當老師看診時，也是學生最好學習的機會。
慈大醫學系一年級學生陳璇：「遮右眼，先遮右眼，指缺口方向給我。」
雖然丹南地處偏遠，但一做起視力篩檢，也才發現當地孩子視力問題真不少，許主任千里迢迢帶了兩百多副眼鏡，發現視力有問題的學生，當場就送給他們。
學生協助老師，在每一次的活動過後，把每一位學生的篩檢結果做完整的紀錄。
慈濟大學醫學系主任許明木：「我不曉得什麼原因，這邊小孩子有屬於中高度散光的，滿多的。」
透過學生整理出來的資料，都留給當地學校師長做參考。
一趟東馬行，許明木分秒不空過，是給予學生指導的老師，也是為許多患有眼疾的民眾解除困惑的良醫，對學生與民眾的愛如和風，吹進風下之鄉。

愛在丹南--東馬遺忘的部落醫療資源缺乏

丹南，和馬來西亞首都吉隆坡一海之隔，在東馬，距離沙巴首府亞庇約三個小時車程。這裡遍布著許多山區部落，其中一個是倫動部落，它幾乎被世人所遺忘，這裡許多孩子生下來沒有報戶口，因為下山一趟實在是太遠。花蓮慈大在暑假期間展開的海外志工服務，就是和當地醫師合作，前進到丹南的山頂。
在只有雙線道、沒有紅綠燈的丹南鎮上，聚集了丹南大部份居民，將近有六萬人，每當有人生病，來到鎮上唯一一家公立醫院，經過登記程序後，只需要花費一塊錢馬幣，大約台幣十塊錢。而想要到私人的診所看診，只要走過一條街，雖然診所收費要從三十塊錢馬幣開始起跳，但排隊看診的民眾還是大有人在。
不想等待的民眾，花錢就能享受醫療服務，但在山區裡，其實很多原住民部落有著與錢無關的就醫困難。
這段平地只要跑兩個小時的路程，在山區泥巴路上，要花上六七個小時才能到達倫動部落，有急事要出入只能依靠四輪驅動車，就連來義診的醫師都不例外。
地處偏遠的倫動部落，吃喝拉撒幾乎全靠雨水，加上資訊不發達，所以義診團隊特別針對居民最嚴重的蛀牙與寄生蟲病進行治療。
由當地獅子會組成的義診團隊中，其實還包括了政府婦女醫院的醫護團隊，因為除了一般常見的疾病之外，倫動部落還有一項讓人頭疼的生育問題。
像美西這樣，三十六歲，已經是七個孩子的媽，在倫動部落是很正常的事情，靠著農耕與政府補助，一家人就能過活，但是孩子生得多，部落居民的數量卻不斷減少。
倫動部落村長：「幾年前統計過不到一百人，就沒再統計了。」
因為倫動只有一間小學，孩子要讀書就要到外地去，離開後往往很少回來，雖然政府曾提議遷村，但老一輩的村民卻割捨不下熟悉的家鄉，所以把希望全放在出外的年輕村民身上。
倫動部落村長：「期待我們年輕人出去能發揮他們的影響力，讓政府跟外界資源能看到，關懷倫動部落。」
彷彿是印證村長的話，在回程的路上，義診團隊看到令人感動的一幕。
身為人師的責任，志為人醫的使命，讓愛不斷湧進需要的地方。

Objective:

To create a public awareness on the Cardiovascular Risk Factors: Hypertension, Diabetes and Hyperlipidaemia by providing them with free screening and health education.
To create a public awareness on Osteoporosis, especially among the elderly.

About 120 people received the above services. All blood tests are sponsored and done by volunteers, Lions and Leo members from the participating clubs.

丹南獅子會與福建會館聯辦健康檢查與捐血活動

【丹南五日訊】丹南獅子會與丹南福建會館所聯合主辦之健康檢查運動，經于日前假丹南TMC醫務所（陳書根醫生）前面的空地上成功舉行，該活動獲得本區居民踴躍參與，同時本區的多個社團也給予熱烈的響應，派出會員參與。

根據該活動負責人陳書根醫生表示，主辦此次活動之主要目的，乃是為了讓公眾有機會進行健康檢查，讓他們了解本身的身體健康，并即早做好預防，所謂"預防勝于治療"，透過檢查身體了解本身的健康情形。

在當天早上的活動中，主辦當局為公眾提供多種的身體查驗，其中包括有：骨骼疏鬆、驗血壓、血糖等多種檢查，這些檢查都是免費的。許多公眾也因此前來接受檢驗，畢竟在平時這種的檢驗的收費不菲。

另外，主辦當局也透過此活動舉行捐血運動，并獲得許多公眾響應，這也為丹南政府醫院的血庫暫時解決了血液存量不足的問題了。該身體檢驗活動及捐血運動一直到中午方結束。

主辦當局十分感謝所有參與此次健康檢查活動的工作人員的，令到整個活動能順利舉行。同時，也要感謝各社團及公眾給予熱烈的支持及響應。相信透過此檢查活動，大家更加了解本身的身體狀態。

4-9 Aug 2008 Hosting of Youth Exchange Students from Japan & Italy @ Tenom/Keningau, Sabah

The 4 Clubs in Tenom-Keningau once again joined hands to host the 15 YE students from Japan and 3 from Italy. The YE students had the opportunity to experience the rural life style and learned the culture of the locals in the interior of Sabah. They visited the Sabah Agricultural Park, Murut Cultural Centre, the famous Tenom Coffee Centre and the dairy farm, besides experiencing the thrilling 4x4 experience and the fishing at Fatt Choi Garden. They also met students of their age from their visits to the 3 secondary schools of different types. Everywhere they visited, they received overwhelming response from the students, including a visit to Chung Hwa Primary School where they were given VIP reception.

Each year, the Lions International Youth Camp and Exchange Program introduces young people to life in other cultures by helping them travel abroad. Each Youth Camp and Exchange includes an extended stay hosted by one of our many international clubs.

【根地咬八日訊】國際獅子會308A2區第十四分區四個獅子會及三個幼獅會將于本月十六日晩上七時，假丹南中華小學禮堂舉行新屆理事聯合宣誓就職典禮，恭請國際獅子會308A2區總監許穎燕擔任大會主禮嘉賓爲此項盛典主持監誓儀式。熱烈歡迎來自本州，砂拉越，汶萊及納閩聯邦直轄區之獅子會代表踴躍出席參與，以增添盛會之光彩。

由於當晩也是丹南文華獅子會歡慶創會十五周年紀念，因此在此項盛典中也將安排一項歡慶周年紀念之儀式，令大會更形隆重。

爲了令此項本州內陸區四個獅子會(丹南獅子會,根地咬獅子會,根地咬文華獅子會及丹南文華獅子會)及三個幼獅會(丹南中華中學幼獅會,丹南崇正中學幼獅會及丹南政中幼獅會)一年一度盛大之慶典能順利舉行，一個以丹南文華獅子會會長張英才擔任主席之籌備委員會已經正式成立,並立即展開一連串之籌辦工作。至目前爲止，盛典之一切準備工作已經準備就緒。

在國際青年交換計劃下十名日青年蒞訪丹南

【丹南廿九日訊】內陸區四個獅子會包括丹南獅子會、丹南文華獅子會、根地咬獅子會、根地咬文華獅子會，配合國際青年交換計劃之下，領養了來自日本十位青年。并且為這十位跨國養子養女們準備了許多精彩豐富的節目及活動。根據丹南獅子會負責人之一的陳書根醫生披露，每年內陸區四獅會都會配合國際青年交流計劃而領養來自日本的青年，今年也不例外，今年一共有十位日本青年前來內陸區。此計劃之主要目的乃是為了讓他國青年們有機會了解我國馬來西亞的文化，并認識本區居民的生活習俗，促進彼此之間的了解。在較早前，丹南文華獅子會會長張英才在歡送會上致詞中說道，308－A2區獅子會與日本獅子會青年交換計劃已經進行了許多年，今年也不例外。雖然目前世界各地都受到HN戈流感的襲擊，但是我們這班年輕人卻冒著生命危險，勇敢的完成使命，來到我們當中，實行他們的任務，與馬來西亞尤其是沙巴州丹南及根地咬進行文化教育的交流，他們的精神實在值得我們學習。在這幾天的領養期間，本區之獅子會也準備了多項的活動讓這批青年們參與。其中有帶他們前往本區的名勝地區，包括出名的丹南農業公園參觀、品嘗及參觀丹南名產咖啡等。除此之外，當局也帶日本青年參觀本區的多所中、小學，其中包括丹南中華中華、丹南崇正中學，丹南政府中學、根地咬根華中學及丹南中華小學。讓他們了解我國的教育制度及背景。當局也將會舉行多項的球類活動，讓他們參與，與本區之青年交流。在最後一天，四個獅子會也為與本區三個幼獅會，包括丹南中華中學、丹南崇正中學及丹南政府中學之幼獅會也為日本青年舉行交流暨歡送會。在交流會當中，本區幼獅也穿上土著傳統服裝，而日本青年也以日本和服見人。兩國青年以文化進行交流。

國際獅會308A2區下月廿二起舉辦獅友接力行動之旅

【根地咬廿六日訊】國際獅子會3802A區將于八月廿二日至廿五日舉辦一項＂獅友接力行動之旅＂的活動，邀請來自砂拉越，沙巴，汶萊及納閩聯邦直轄區超過七十二個獅會之成員共同參與。此項英文簡稱＂LIAR＂LIONS IN ACTION RALLY之活動乃由國際獅子會3802A區內閣糖尿病醒覺主任兼根地咬文華獅子會前任會長顔健祥醫生擔任籌委會主席，負責此項活動全程策劃及安排之工作，並由國際獅子會3802A區分區主席兼根地咬文華獅子會前任會長徐仕堅擔任副主席，從旁給予協助。國際獅子會3802A區總監許穎燕，第一副總監吳良仁及第二副總監陳書根醫生則受委任爲籌備委員會之顧問。此項活動乃依據多年前所主辦之護眼防盲之旅的方式進行。當時之行程是從斗湖至古晉，整個旅程需要一個星期之時間。爲了讓這次之活動能更順暢進行及減少各獅子會成員之負擔起見，經把行程時間改爲四天，並把終站改爲沙巴及砂拉越州之中心點，美里市。這也讓來自沙巴，砂拉越，汶萊及納閩獅子會之成員能從四面八方前來美里市相聚，意義非常深長。根據籌委會所作出之安排，此項活動將分成五隊。分別爲沙巴州三隊及砂拉越州兩隊．旅程將從各獅會所在地于八月廿二日啓程．參與之隊伍將依據行程表所安排，在所指定之停留站過夜，由當地獅子會安排接待。晩間則將舉行聯誼活動．如果時間允許，也將安排爲當地民衆進行各項社區服務活動．整個活動將涵蓋沙巴，沙拉越，汶萊及納閩，行程超過一千公里。第一隊之團員將包括來自斗湖，拿篤，山打根之獅子會成員組成。路程將從斗湖啓程，路經根地咬，老越，林夢，汶萊，最終抵達美里。第二隊之團員則包括來自亞庇，古達，古打毛律及蘭瑙之獅會成員所組成。行程將從各自地區開始。在根地咬集合後，與第一和第三隊伍一起繼續行程至美里。第三隊之團員則包括來自丹南，根地咬，保佛，林夢，老越，汶萊及納閩聯邦直轄區之獅會成員所組成。在各自地區啓程後在老越集合。然後與第一及第二隊一起繼續行程至美里。第四隊之團員則包括來自古晉，碧湖及西連之獅子會成員組成。行程將從古晉開始。抵達詩巫後與第五隊一起前往美里。第五隊之團員則包括來自加帛，沐膠，民丹莪，泗里街，詩巫及民都魯。旅程將從各自獅會地點啓程。在詩巫集合後一起前往美里。整個行程將以美里作爲終站。屆時美里之獅子會將安排一個大型之歡迎晩宴，並在來自沙巴，砂拉越，汶萊及納閩獅子會成員共聚一堂時刻，主辦一項惠及大衆之服務活動。美里文華獅子會會長黃麗琪，前會長劉久健、楊忠憲、拿督劉鄭振漢，鄧諭強及翁錦水等經應允屆時將給予全力支持，盡力給予協助，以確保此項國際獅子會3802A區本年度超大型之活動能順利及成功主辦。活動主任顔健祥醫生對此項活動之成功主辦表示充滿信心。主要原因是籌委會經獲得各區獅會會長及理事們應允將給予全力支持。特別是獲得美里文華獅子會姐妹會各前會長給予之鼓勵，更加強各委員們對此項活動取得圓滿主辦之決心。他説，主辦此項活動主要目的乃藉此加強國際獅子會3802A區獅友與各區社群之聯繫，促進各區獅友間之聯誼，互相瞭解與合作，以及加強社會大衆對國際獅子會之認識與和獅會形象。除此之外，此項活動也希望能把獅子會爲大衆服務之宗旨加以擴展，在旅程途中爲各區社群提供所需之服務及鼓勵獅子會成員招收新會員，創立新獅子會及保留現有之會員。同時，此項活動也希望能達致國際獅子會會長之主題＂成長來自行動＂，以及3802A區總監許穎燕之主題＂讓我們一起來進行＂。

台灣青年國際志工服務團隊來馬進行志工服務工作

今年7至8月份將有來自台灣的12個國際青年志工團來馬來西亞進行交流訪問，這些志工團隊造訪的地區擴及全馬，服務的範圍包括健康諮詢與義診、青少年課後輔導課程、資訊交流、文化交流等，展現台灣青年熱愛生命、服務人群、善盡國際公民義務之行動力。
「台灣青年國際志工服務計畫」是由中華民國行政院青年輔導委員會所策劃，旨在招募立志伸展愛心、貢獻所學的台灣優秀青年志工，走向全球需要光與熱的角落。這項計畫獲得台灣各大學及民間團體的熱烈響應。
今年計劃赴馬來西亞各地進行志工服務的團隊，包括針對社區義診與健康諮詢的輔英科技大學、前往沙巴進行社區衛教服務的慈濟大學、針對獨中華小學科輔導的國立彰化師範大學與國立師範大學、以及協助建置「巴生文化創意產業網路電視台」的弘光科技大學等。據赴東馬進行志工服務的慈濟大學「風下之鄉、愛在丹南」領隊黃凱婧說，該團隊是與國際獅子會沙巴分會、當地志工團體、大學老師和學生、慈濟分會、地方醫療人員合作，將深入社區醫療及健康諮詢等服務，並經由相互關懷、義診的進行，培養服務的熱忱，落實人本精神。此外他們還要針對當地的丹南啟新華文小學及育華華文小學兩所學校進行課輔，教導學生如何從小培養衛生習慣，以樹立未來健康人生的基礎。而弘光科技大學志工計畫主持人陳明發博士表示，該校推派實習網路電視台負責編採、拍攝及後製等工作的同學，協助建置「巴生文化創意網路電視台」，以推廣巴生地區的觀光與美食。
這些國際志工服務團隊成員大都是正在台灣各大學就讀之青年學子，平日在校參與個個不同領域的社福社團，實地瞭解志工服務之內涵及應抱負之使命，並利用暑假期間進行國際交流與服務，作為理論與實務相互融合之實際體現。今年參與此項計畫之團隊計有162個、總計約1千2百餘人，分赴全球各地展開青年志工服務工作；而前來馬來西亞進行交流者，總計有12個團隊、約105人。

11 Lions Clubs: Tenom, Tenom Mandarin, Keningau, Keningau Mandarin, KK Downtown, KK Sutera, Lawas, Miri Central, Kuching Host, Kuching Stampin Pending and Kota Samarahn joined hands, together with Leos from SM Chung Hwa, Tenom 4x4 Club members and students from Tzu Chi University, Taiwan, to oraginsed community and health projects at this remote village in the interior district of Tenom.

Due to the unusual heavy down pour continuously for days earlier, the usual 3 hours journey through the muddy and rocky track “so call ROAD” took us an unprecedented time of 6 hours to reach the destination – Kg Rundum, which is situated on a hill top with beautiful surrounding sceneries. Immediately on arrival at 3 pm, all the Lions and the volunteers set up their service booths.

1. Medical Team led by Dr Tan & Dr Rajan. provides free medical consultation and treatment.

2. Dental Team led by Dr Loga & Dr Jane made careful dental check and gave the much needed tooth extractions.

3. Health team led by Dr Gan and the KKIK team checked the immunisation and health status of the children and mothers in the village. RC Chee Suk Fun fed the children with dewroming syrup.

4. Sightfirst Team led by PDG Mary Law did the visual checking and precribed free reading glasses

5. Agriculture Team led by Lion Kapitan Lo gave some farming tips and guides to the villages and gave away some young fruit trees and seedlings to be planted at the village.

6. Agricultural Research Team led by Lion Jain went into the surrounding forests looking for wild orchid and plant species

7. Educational Team led by Lion Chu organised colouring contest and fellowship for the children. DG BC Sim presented gift sets to all the children.

Our cooking team led by Lion Syed Meera worked hard to prepare delicious food in great variety for our dinner. Meanwhile, the village folks also prepared traditional dishes for us. In the evening, the children presented Murut traditional dance to entertainment the guests.

In the next morning, Lion Syed prepared something special for the village folks.- Indian Roti Canai and Boori + Teh Tarik.

風下之鄉愛在丹南

本身是馬來西亞公民，對我們國家的了解卻只局限於西馬那發展較快的半島。馬來西亞獨立建國已有52年之久，雖然一個國家隔著一個南中國海，打飛機也只不過2小時的時間，這短暫的距離卻造就了不少差異。常聽別人說東馬有多麼的落後 – 東馬的偏遠地區航空服務（Rural Air Service），東馬的‘飛行醫師’（Flying Doctors），及東馬多元的原住民文化，無不間接的指向緩慢的生活腳步及純樸人情味濃厚的生活方式。

從未到過東馬，但立志有一天要去看看，畢竟也是大馬人，而政府現在正提倡一個馬來西亞（1Malaysia）的觀念，鼓吹公平的權利及經濟分配，提升偏遠地區的醫療，教育，經濟及文化水平。得知這個暑假本校有自組海外職工團到東馬，興奮不已，便參加投入此團隊。

由於此團隊開始之時是個人私底下找伙伴成立自組團，我是第9個加入此團隊的人，整個團隊已幾乎完整。剛開始對自組團沒有太深入的了解，只知道很多事情必須自己規劃，設計，執行。很多事情還是在往後的開會時在把其定義及工作范疇弄清楚。重視學業的我都試圖逃避一些負擔比較重的工作，對此相對失去的學習機會也倍感慚愧。

成立初期便規劃好要與兩個不同的非政府組織（NGO）合作，一來體驗不同NGO的經營方式，二來試圖開創先驅，是否可以結合一地二體回饋當地。出自慈濟大學的團體必定受到慈濟團體的愛戴及包庇，我們的活動非常感恩有丹南慈濟聯絡處的李麗花師姑，無時無刻替我們安排衣食住行。最原始版的活動都是麗花師姑在當地的協調及安排。也因為慈濟的姻緣，我們是倍受矚目的 – 出外代表學校表演的時候都只能用慈濟人文的表演：手語，靜思語等，穿上制服的時候盡可能素食，活動內容也鼓勵多結合慈濟文化，帶入慈濟精神。射手座的我很多時候都非常納悶，學校或許可以采取更加寬松及隨和的態度（laizzes-faire ），從給予學生適當程度的自由的來對學校及基金會的尊敬。

暑假開始，大家便到桃園機場聯絡處進行短暫的幹訊與準備工作。所完成的工作雖然不多，卻對之後減輕我們不少負擔。活動設計期間感覺團隊里的人設計教材時都太著重於動態性的活動，自己主持活動一天下來不但自己累，小朋友也會玩得很累吧。後期執行活動時才發現小朋友對靜態的上課方式吸收其實並不好，沒有經驗的我們也會對上課的‘冷’感到尷尬。從小朋友身上的學習讓我們增加了幼兒及孩童的衛教經驗；在我們喊破臊子控制次序的時候使出絕招讓小朋友安靜下來“再吵就不玩啦！”

本身對航空公司的機票作業及安排自認有經驗，故自愿替團隊安排。私人恩怨使得當初有產生一些誤解，當時也觀察到團隊的一個問題 –大家都很會拖拖拉拉。自己擔任過慈韻合唱團的社長，對於延緩作業的人是不留情的要求自行負責，也因此建立了冷酷無情的形象。在三催四清下完成了機票作業。航空業進來出現了廉價航空，此航空作業模式與傳統航空大不相同。由於團隊有四位伙伴活動結束後會回家過暑假，故可以多加利用傳統航空的轉機停留優惠，價格與廉價航空不相上下。

為期兩個禮拜的海外志工團隊活動安排緊湊，期初都是獅子會的活動，本團隊對獅子會而言是客，故招待殷勤，也安排了很多資深的專業人士陪我們參觀。

與獅子會合作也不是沒有摩擦的 – 當初基金會得知獅子會到Rundum的義診須坐4小時的四輪驅動車，我們還是答應了他們，便責怪師姑及校方沒有慎重考量學生安全。獅子會也被我們搞得團團轉。基金會過於固執，獅子會無法了解大家長似的擔心，本團伙伴年輕人的堅持，大家那段時間都非常煩惱 – 去或不去。最後在大家的堅持下我們很驚險的去了Rundum。路況因下雨而非常不好，當時獅子會的成員無一展示害怕惶恐的表情，大家還是很堅持，很鎮定的到了部落，完成了義診及發放的動作。我們回來之後陳醫師及其他獅子會成員才跟我們透露當時也非常擔心，在爛泥巴及倒回頭兩者大家把心里的害怕隱藏起來，堅持下去。負責安排獅子會活動的我深深感動，覺得這是醫學系學生可以學習的地方 – 在慌亂之時顯得鎮定，認真做事。

圓滿了獅子會的活動，大家都對兩個NGO的作業有很多心得。個人覺得慈濟功德會做事謹慎，有條理，而且顧及長遠；獅子會則對真正有需要的人不管距離及障礙地伸出援手，不是它們專業的地方獅子會有辦法募集相關專業利於自己及服務對象，最後由於獅子會成員背景多元化，故有深入的互相尊重的精神 – 尊重個別的差異所帶出的整體感。這是慈濟尚要學習的部分。

去了Rundum也獲得滿滿的體驗及感觸。Rundum也不過離丹南3小時，生活環境卻還是停留在二戰之後的原始生活 – 沒有水電，完整的廁所也不過2間。再想到1Malaysia的悅耳理念，不禁感到心酸。想到在校時上了許良因老師的課 – “什麼叫發展？為什麼要追求發展？每個人活得像美國人就算發展嗎？”在Rundum的時候有機會與大愛臺的哥哥到居民家做專訪，感覺雖然生活原始，有很多的不方便，但問及居民是否有意愿搬出去，他們都拒絕 – “因為這里生活很輕松，大家都和樂融融，到鎮上我反而不習慣生活步調及他們的功利主義。”

小學營隊的開始也正是開啟了真正屬於我們的活動。大家再累再忙也盡全力弄好營隊，讓小朋友從我們短暫的一天半的活動獲得最大的受惠。丹南地區有很多華小，但學生人數都不多，相較我小時候的小學差很遠。在此也深深的體會了小學校師生之間的融洽互動，小學生的活潑及熱情。學校雖小，設備卻不輸大城市的學校；相對的，小學校的學生使用到學校的資源機會也比較多。整體上這里的小朋友沒有城市小孩的嬌滴滴，卻多了一份純真，多了一份愿意嘗試的心理。深深的祝福他們。

主任的義診也深深的烙印在我心中。因丹南地區醫療資源不足，民眾得知有外地專科醫師到來義診，當然是一窩蜂的用上去求診問問題。好幾天的疲勞加上對於自認‘愚蠢’的問題造成我們的不耐煩及不用心。在脾氣暴躁的時候卻忘了今天成就我們一切的丹南居民，麗花師姑。大愛臺哥哥的提醒敲醒了我“很多事情盡管萬分不愿意，可是為了人情，為了不要撕破臉，還是得把他做好。天下沒有絕對的多錯，過於理性的思考對大家都沒有好處。”這些言語我是聽進去了，但是伙伴們是否了解消化，我不知道。服務結束后大家在亞庇有2天的自由活動時間，伙伴們的做法我不認同，而且在沒有知會師姑的情況下，我自覺得做的不夠圓滿。雖然最後安全，但當下還是感覺失望，沒有辦法阻止而感覺無奈。

到了行程的尾聲，師姑體我們安排了到根地咬的寄養院關懷。執行活動的時候感覺上是他們在關懷我們而不是相反。他們的熱情深深的為我們上了一堂寶貴的課 – 不要以貌取人。更值得一提的是，寄養院的青少年不是家里離學校太遠就是家里狀況不好而來 – 有非法移民的小孩，有原住民的小孩，可是大家還是相處得很好 – 大的帶小的，不會爭執。見到客人他們都掛上歡迎的笑容，很殷勤的跟大家介紹寄養院的環境，踩花送伙伴，陪我們跳原住民舞蹈。他們的自力更生，獨立自主及成熟的待人處事是我們很好的省思。

離開丹南收獲良多，也對他們的風土人情及馬來西亞的熱情感動。當初說好海外志工是刻苦克難的，到了丹南大家還是會抱怨沒有熱水，斷斷續續的電流供應，吃的米飯沒有臺灣的好吃等。這點在檢討會上提出來省思一番後大家都感覺慚愧。幼稚無知的行為對我們團隊每一個人都沒有好處，但在遇見狀況的時候大家還是會忍不住埋怨。難道住慣了臺灣的舒適與可口大家就只能永遠待在這個小島上？不是說世界的所有不平我們都可以用愛，用關懷來撫平它？看見別人的困苦的時候我們卻擺出什麼架勢？

這次海外志工學習很多，觀察很多，心里產生了很多不滿，猜疑了很多事情，看透了功名利祿的運轉，更讓我深深體會人的意志力與堅強的力量。今天我們到了外太空回頭看地球，它也只不過是太陽系中的一顆小星球，那時我們還要爭著堅持用繁體中文寫小學的海報（馬來西亞使用簡體中文），爭著飯不夠臺灣的Q，爭著獅子會對我們過分但確實的批評，爭著師姑不考慮伙伴累而追加義診場次嗎？我覺得團隊伙伴或甚至可延伸到臺灣的小孩都太自我中心，因為生活環境太好而很愛在乎一些芝麻蒜皮的事情。身在其外稍作批判，若讀者認為不確實請自行忽略。

感恩太多人的成全及圓滿，讓12位年輕人的夢想達成，美化了他們暑假的記憶。留給丹南，留給獅子會，慈濟及小學的又有什麼？這是我們之後必須思考的。

Jointly organised by Leo Clubs of SM Chung Hwa & SMK Tenom; and supported by Lions Clubs of Tenom, Keningau, Keningau Mandarin, Tenom Mandarin, Lawas, and KK Downtown.

The original venue at Lions Camping Island, Taman Pertanian Sabah, had to be relocated to SM Chung Hwa School due to the worst flood hitting Tenom.

150 participants from Tenom, Keningau, KK, Sandakan Tawau and Miri attended this yearly 3D2N Camp in Tenom. This year’s theme is: “Hand in Hand, Heart to Heart for a better tommorrow” with Leo President Tan Sze Hao as Organising Chairman, PDG James Teo as chief speaker and RC Robin Chew as Camp Commander.

Joint project by Lions Clubs of

Tenom, Tenom, Mandarin, Keningau, Keningau Mandarin and KK Downtown.

Lions from the 5 clubs, led by PDG William Tan went with truck full of food and essential items went into the badly hit villages and deliver the food items to the flood victims. More than 100 families benefitted from this project.

We have a record of 14 Lions Clubs from Kuching to Tawau, including 2 Lions from Taipei Hua Chian joined hands to organise this meaningful rural community health service projects at Kg Tinura, a remote village located about 100 km from Tenom Town, which only accessible by tough 4x4 vehicles. The whole convoy consisted of 27 vehicles and 80 members of Lions , Leos, Tenom 4x4 members and FOL. Our first team
departed Tenom Town at 11.20 am in a 20 vehicles convoy. The 2nd team consisting of 7 4x4 vehicles picked up our outstation Lions departed Tenom at 1 pm.

On arrival at about 1 pm, we set up our various service booths consisiting of the following services:
1. Free Medical Services with medications 2 Lions Doctors; DC Dr Tan & PP Dr Markus
provided medical consultations. Many of the villagers suffered from chronic arthritis and gastric problems.

2. Diabetic & Blood Pressure Screening More than 100 adults had their BP checked and blood glucose screening was done on those above 40s. Those noted abnormal were advised to have further check in the Hospital/clinic.

3. Eye Checking Those with the visual problems were referred for further eye examination by Dr Tan in the clinic. Those who need glasses will be sponsored the spectacle frames and lenses at subsidized price. Those who need medical attention will be referred to eye specialist for further treatment.

4. Deworming (Ubat Cacing) All the children were given deworming syrup as the incidence of worm infestation is very high among the rural folks.

5. Children gathering A lot of programmes wre being organized and planned specially by ZC Margo and her members. A coloring contest was held with attractive prizes to the winners. All those with birthday falling on July were given a birthday surprise – a birthday celebration and birthday cake. Children were entertained with songs and games.

6. Dental Kits were given to all the children as an awareness program to promote dental hygiene.

7. Hair Cut President Jennifer doing the professional hair cut for the women.
